Closing 21st Avenue from University Boulevard to the ABC Store Access Drive

MEDIA RELEASE FROM THE OFFICE OF THE CITY ENGINEER

DOWNTOWN URBAN REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT

WORK ZONE TRAFFIC CONTROL ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Office of the City Engineer advises that the City’s contractor, GFC, will close 21st Avenue from University Boulevard to the ABC Store Access Drive beginning Wednesday, February 24, 2010, until Friday, March 12, 2010, (approximately two weeks – depending on weather). This closure is needed in order to complete the curb, base and paving in this area.

Please be mindful of these work zone traffic control changes during your daily travels.

DOWNTOWN URBAN REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT
WORK ZONE TRAFFIC CONTROL ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Office of the City Engineer advises that the City’s contractor, GFC, has extended the closure of the intersections of 21st Avenue and 7th Street and 22nd Avenue and 7th Street until Friday, March 12, 2010, for continuing construction on the downtown project. They are also extending the closure of 21st Avenue between 6th and 7th Street for this same time period. This extension is the result of the recent rainy weather and also waiting on some utility work to be completed.

Please be mindful of these work zone traffic control changes during your daily travel.

Closing east bound lane of Old Colony Road between Northridge Road and Rice Mine Road
TDOT advises that the east bound lane of Old Colony Road between Northridge Road and Rice Mine Road will be closed daily beginning March 16, 2010 through March 19, 2010 from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The closure is due to road maintenance.
Closing Grace Street in the 400 block
The City of Tuscaloosa Department of Transportation advises that Alabama Power Company will be closing Grace Street in the 400 block, from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM, Friday, March 12, 2010. The closure is due to utility pole replacement at their substation.
TDOT STREET SWEEPING SCHEDULE FOR THE WEEK OF March 8, 2010
The City of Tuscaloosa Department of Transportation will be sweeping the following general areas the week of March 8, 2010.

15th Street to 20th Street and 30th Avenue to Greensboro Avenue (1-C)

Dearing Place, Covent Street, Homewood Drive, Cedar Crest (4-A)

Kennedy Park, Colonial Hills, Green Grove Streets & Avenues (5-C)

Woodland Hills (South), Woodland Hills Drive @47th Ave E, Arbor Lane, Stone Hill Circle, Red Oak Lane (6-B-4)

In order to allow the sweepers to do a thorough job, please refrain from parking on the street in these areas this week.

Closing 6th Street from 21st Avenue to 22nd Avenue
OCE advises that the City’s contractor, GFC, will close 6th Street from 21st Avenue to 22nd Avenue starting Tuesday, February 23, 2010, through Friday, March 12, 2010, for installation of a new sewer line. Please be mindful of these work zone traffic control changes during your daily travel.
Extreme caution - AL Hwy 69/Skyland Blvd (US 11S)
The City of Tuscaloosa Department of Transportation advises that motorists should use extreme caution in the location of AL Hwy 69/Skyland Blvd (US 11S) intersection. This advisory is due to the installation of new traffic signals. The work zone area will consist of slow moving vehicles and personnel on the ground between the hours of 8:30 a.m. through 2:30 p.m. continuing through the end of March, 2010.
