CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING
Each year, the city of Tuscaloosa Environmental Services Department hosts a Christmas Tree Recycling Event. Real Christmas trees, along with real garland and wreaths, can be dropped off during the two weeks following Christmas at old Bruno's parking lot on McFarland Blvd. The trees, garland and wreaths are used in a multitude of projects including mulched landscaping applications, erosion control, and fish-bed habitats in local lakes and rivers.
During the holiday months, 25% more waste is produced and sent to local landfills. ESD would like to remind our citizens to practice the 3R’s of minimizing waste during the holidays:
- Reduce waste by buying in bulk, send email greeting cards, give gift certificates or club memberships, use gift bags instead of wrapping paper and buy rechargeable batteries.
- Resuse materials such as cardboard boxes, wrappings and ribbons, and create crafts from items to be discarded.
- Recycle what you can. The city of Tuscaloosa Environmental Services department collects aluminum and steel cans, newspaper, plastics #1 & #2, magazines, recyclable paper, plastic bags and cardboard at 7 convenient drop-off sites around the city.
