Annual Tuscaloosa Mayor's Cup Set For April 27

The seventh annual City of Tuscaloosa Mayor's Cup 5K race is set for Saturday, April 27 at 8 a.m. The race will start and end at Government Plaza in downtown Tuscaloosa. The route will go through downtown and will cross through the Walk of Champions on the University of Alabama campus. At this site and others along the course there will be photo opportunities. The course route map can be found on the race's new website, www.tuscaloosamayorscup.com.    After the race, which is open to runners and walkers of all ages and fitness levels, there will be refreshments, a disc jockey, photo opportunities and kid-friendly activities, such as the Home Depot Kids' Building Center.Awards will be given to the top female and male participants, the top female and male grandmaster finishers, the top female and male master finishers and the first, second and third finishers in each age group.Proceeds from the race will benefit the Tuscaloosa Pre-K initiative. Last year's race raised more than $15,500. Participants can register now for the race online, in person or by mail using forms on the Mayor's Cup website. Registration fees are $15 if registered or postmarked before Sunday, March 31 and $20 after that date. A group rate of $12 per runner is available to groups of 25 or more that register at the same time with one form of payment.
