The City of Tuscaloosa, in partnership with the University of Alabama Community Service Center, Alabama Legion Boys State and the Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority, will have a service project unveiling ceremony at 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 13 at the Palmore Park bathhouse at 3701 Fosters Ferry Road.Participants in Boys State have been working with PARA as well as the Tuscaloosa Department of Transportation in renovating playground areas, painting pavilions, restriping parking lots and landscaping the entrance, among other projects at Palmore Park in West Tuscaloosa. Alabama Boys State is a leadership program designed to help train young men in the ideals and objectives of American government by teaching youth to understand and appreciate the basic principles involved in the successful management of a democratic society. For the fifth year, Alabama Boys State incorporated a volunteer service project.By the end of the week these young men will be able to see the tangible results of their work and the impact they can have in their own communities.“This dynamic project demonstrates what is best about this community,” said Tuscaloosa Mayor Walter Maddox. “By bringing together the City, UA, PARA and Alabama Boys State, we are going to make a difference for the people of Tuscaloosa. I am confident that this investment of resources and sweat equity will build a stronger quality of life for all.”To culminate the week, Boys State participants, Maddox, Council President Harrison Taylor, Tuscaloosa City Council, Judge Pete Johnson, director of Alabama Boys State, and PARA Director Gary Minor will participate in the unveiling ceremony at Palmore Park.
