On October 1, 2007, all Engineering functions were transferred to the Office of City Engineer (OCE) to improve the management of our infrastructure assets and streamline of our operations.
Divisions
There are five divisions within the department
· Traffic Systems
· Transportation Maintenance (TM)
· Storm Drainage Maintenance
· Fleet Maintenance
· Airport management
Each division has three or more sections
For Example:
· Traffic signals
· Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
· Animal control
· Construction crews
· Mechanics
About the Transportation Department
· 180 employees
· Annual operating budget exceeds $6 million for all divisions
Responsibilities
Operates and maintains
· 200 traffic signals
· Approximately 5000 stop signs
· Over 400 miles of paved roads.
The three person pothole asphalt crew, patches approximately 2500 potholes per year.
The Parking Control officers write 24,000 tickets per year, totaling an average of $240,000.
