Mayor Walt Maddox continues Iron Bowl Wager tradition

Mayor Walt Maddox continues Iron Bowl Wager tradition

City of Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox will continue the tradition of a $100 Iron Bowl wager to benefit local charities for the sixth year in a row with newly-elected Auburn Mayor Ron Anders.

The two mayors have agreed that if the Alabama Crimson Tide wins, Anders will make a $100 donation to the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative and if the Auburn Tigers prevail, Maddox will make a $100 donation to the Exceptional Foundation of East Alabama.

“The Iron Bowl is important to both our communities, and I’m excited to continue this tradition with Mayor Anders,” Maddox said. “The Iron Bowl also provides a unique opportunity to showcase two charities which mean a great deal to us personally and our communities.”

In 2013 the ante was upped from $25 donations to $100. In that time Former Auburn Mayor Bill Ham donated $400 to the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative while Maddox donated $200 to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lee County.

Since they started the bet in 2005, Alabama leads the series 7-6.

This will be the 83rd meeting between the Tide and the Tigers as they kickoff in Tuscaloosa Saturday, Nov. 24.
