City to Host Annual Mayor's Cup 5K

Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The City of Tuscaloosa will host the eighth annual Mayor's Cup 5K on Saturday, April 26.The race will increase awareness and raise funds for the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative and is presented by Mercedes-Benz U.S. International.The first Mayor's Cup was held in 2007, and it has raised more than $110,000 for the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative since its inception. This initiative focuses on 21 pre-kindergarten classrooms and more than 250 preschool students throughout the City of Tuscaloosa.The race will start and end at Government Plaza behind City Hall. There will be a DJ and door prizes after the race. Both runners and walkers are encouraged to participate in the 5K. This is a rain or shine event.The Mayor's Cup is a Grand Prix event registered with the Tuscaloosa Track Club, and awards will be given. Timing chips attached to race bibs will be used to determine race results.The registration fee is $20 now through March 31 and $25 from April 1 to April 26. Groups of 25 or more participants should email mayorscup@tuscaloosa.com for information on group rates.
