Mayor Walt Maddox continues Iron Bowl Wager tradition

TUSCALOOSA, AL - City of Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox will continue the tradition of a $100 Iron Bowl wager to benefit local charities for the seventh year in a row with Auburn Mayor Ron Anders.

The two mayors have agreed that if the Alabama Crimson Tide wins, Anders will make a $100 donation to the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative. If the Auburn Tigers prevail, Maddox will make a $100 donation to the Exceptional Foundation of East Alabama.

“The Iron Bowl is important to both of our communities, and I’m looking forward to upholding this tradition,” Maddox said. “This friendly wager provides a unique opportunity to showcase two charities that mean a great deal to us personally and to our communities.”

This tradition dates back to 2005, when Mayor Maddox and former Auburn Mayor Bill Ham each bet $25 donations. In 2013 the ante was upped from $25 donations to $100. Since they started the bet in 2005, Alabama leads the series 8-6.

This will be the 84th meeting between the Tide and the Tigers as they kickoff in Auburn on Saturday, Nov. 30.
