Tuscaloosa Municipal Court Judge to Retire

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – Municipal Court Judge Madelene L. Hollingsworth has announced plans to retire from the City of Tuscaloosa at the end of 2014.

Hollingsworth has spent 29 years with the City serving as assistant city attorney, deputy city attorney and the municipal court judge, where she served for 12 years.

Hollingsworth was appointed by the City Council in 2002 and sworn in in 2003. During her time in office, she established a veteran’s court, worked with local mental health agencies and dealt closely with mental health issues in the mental health court.

“Judge Hollingsworth has done an excellent job serving our City,” said Tuscaloosa Mayor Walter Maddox. “She deeply cares about the law and the people who come before her court.”

Hollingsworth’s term will end Jan. 1, 2015 but she will remain presiding judge until the Council appoints a new judge.
