Mayor Maddox and Auburn Mayor Continue Annual Iron Bowl Wager Tradition

Mayor Walt Maddox and Auburn Mayor Ron Anders will continue the annual tradition of an Iron Bowl wager to benefit local charities this year.

When Auburn and The University of Alabama face off at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 25, if Alabama wins, Anders will make a $100 donation to the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative. If Auburn wins, Mayor Maddox will make a $100 donation to the Exceptional Foundation of East Alabama.

This yearly wager dates back to 2005 between Mayor Maddox and former Auburn Mayor Bill Ham. Since 2005, Auburn has won the Iron Bowl seven times, and Alabama has won 11 times.

“Regardless of the outcome, this wager makes the Iron Bowl a win-win for Tuscaloosa and Auburn," Mayor Maddox said. "The Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative and the Exceptional Foundation of East Alabama are both important causes and I’m glad to help bring them some recognition. May the best team win, and Roll Tide!”
