Come one, come all to the Nick’s Kids Avenue Jubilee! On Thursday, August 5 at 9 a.m., the City of Tuscaloosa and Nick’s Kids Foundation invite you to join us for a parade and a short ceremony to celebrate the renaming of 28th Ave. to “Nick’s Kids Avenue!” This kid-friendly event is free and open to the public. You’ll see fun special guests including Coach and Mrs. Saban, Big Al and more!
What is the purpose of this event?
In April 2020, the Tuscaloosa City Council officially renamed 28th Avenue between Jack Warner Parkway and T.Y. Rogers Jr. Avenue to Nick’s Kids Avenue. This event includes the formal unveiling of the new street name and a fun celebration. The street was renamed in anticipation of the construction of the Saban Center in the location that currently houses the Tuscaloosa News. Nick’s Kids Foundation is making the Saban Center possible by providing a generous financial contribution.
Who is invited?
Everyone! This event is free, open to the public, and family-friendly!
What should I expect?
A parade will begin at 9 AM at the intersection of Nick’s Kids Ave (formerly 28th Avenue) and 7th Street. The parade will travel toward the north, ending in the parking lot for the Tuscaloosa News building.
The unveiling and a brief ceremony will begin there around 9:30 AM. Plan to line up along Nick’s Kids Avenue before the start time to get a good spot. Expect to see Coach and Mrs. Saban, Big Al, and many others!
Where should I park?
Utilize on-street public parking throughout downtown Tuscaloosa.
Is there a cost?
This event is free. There will also be free water, sodas, and festive snacks while supplies last.
How should I dress?
Dress comfortably for warm weather and for being on your feet for at least an hour. There will be a limited amount of seating.
Will restrooms be available?
Portable restrooms will be located in the Tuscaloosa News parking lot.
What will happen in the event of rain?
The event will still be held if there is light rain. In the case of heavy storms, the event would be canceled and the street name unveiling ceremony would be held at a Nick’s Kids Foundation event later that day.
