City of Tuscaloosa to Host 14th Annual Mayor's Cup 5K for Pre-K

TUSCALOOSA, AL - The City of Tuscaloosa and Mayor Walt Maddox will host the 14th annual Mayor’s Cup 5K for Pre-K on Saturday, April 25. The goal of the race is to increase awareness and raise funds for the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative, which aims to expand education and health services for academically at-risk children and their families. Since the inaugural Mayor’s Cup in 2007, the race has raised almost $300,000 to support more than 470 at-risk preschoolers in Tuscaloosa.

“The Tuscaloosa Pre-K initiative prepares our children for kindergarten and gives them a strong foundation for a successful scholastic career,” Mayor Maddox explains. “The Mayor's Cup is a simple, fun way for the Tuscaloosa community to get together and get involved in supporting education.”

The 5K is open to all ages and will begin at 8 a.m. at Government Plaza. Participants are welcome to run or walk. For runners, the Mayor’s Cup 5K is a Grand Prix event registered with the Tuscaloosa Track Club. Timing chips attached to race bibs will be used to determine race results, and awards will be given.

Registration for the race opens on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020. The registration fee is $15 during the month of January, and $20 during the month of February. From April 1 to the day of the race (April 25), the fee will be increased to $25.
