Citizen’s Police Academy is a multi-faceted educational program designed to provide members of our community with the opportunity to gain specific knowledge about the philosophy and processes of the Tuscaloosa Police Department, as well as valuable insight into the field of law enforcement. CLASS SIZE IS LIMITED TO 20 STUDENTS.
Ride Along
The Tuscaloosa Police Department’s Ride-Along program allows interested citizens to accompany a patrol officer during a portion of their shift. TPD encourages community involvement, and we believe ride-alongs are a great way for citizens to observe the challenges, risks and rewards of day-to-day law enforcement operations. Applicants must be at least 18, consent to a background check, and sign a non-disclosure form.

Active Shooter Response Training
An active shooter incident can happen in any place at any time. The best ways to make sure you and your loved ones stay safe are to prepare ahead of time and be ready. Register yourself or your business for active shooter response training and TPD's trained instructors will conduct a training session at your preferred location at no cost.
The Tuscaloosa Police Department is accepting applications for interns. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a college or university and majoring in Criminal Justice or a related field. An internship with TPD is an excellent way for students to receive a general orientation to the daily operations of the department. Interns will perform a variety of assignments to become familiar with the duties of the department's patrol, investigative and administrative divisions.
