City of Tuscaloosa to host Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Day

Tuscaloosa, Ala. - The City of Tuscaloosa Environmental Services department has joined with Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa, Inc. to host a household hazardous waste disposal day on Saturday, May 11 from 8 a.m. until noon.This free drop-off event is open to Tuscaloosa county residents only and will be held at the Environmental Services department located at 3431 Kauloosa Avenue. This event will provide the opportunity to safely recycle or properly dispose of hazardous materials and keep the local community clean.Household hazardous waste is the discarded or unused portion of household products containing toxic chemicals. Hazardous wastes can usually be identified by labels such as: “poisonous”, “toxic”, “flammable”, “corrosive”, “reactive” or “explosive.” Improper disposal of these wastes can pose a threat to human health and the environment.Items that will not be accepted include tires, medical wastes, non-residential wastes, out-of-county wastes and radioactive wastes.
