Sworn Officer Scholarship Created by the City of Tuscaloosa and the University of Alabama

Sworn Officer Scholarship Created by the City of Tuscaloosa and the University of Alabama

In partnership with the City of Tuscaloosa, The University of Alabama has created the UA Sworn Officer Scholarship Program in dedication and appreciation of the officers and first responders of Tuscaloosa.

The program, which will begin in the fall of 2023, gives Tuscaloosa Police Department and Tuscaloosa Fire Rescue’s sworn officers, first responders, and their children the opportunity to receive college assistance.

Additionally, sworn officers and their children from the Northport Police Department, Northport Fire Rescue, and the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s office may be eligible for this scholarship program.

“I am pleased that the City and UA were able to work together to create a program that will leave such an impact on the community and its students,” Mayor Maddox said. “I hope that all of our officers and first responders realize how grateful we are for their continued dedication to the community.”

Scholarships are offered at $2,500 each academic year with the ability to receive $10,000 over the course of 4 years. The University of Alabama’s Office of Enrollment Management will oversee the distribution of scholarships.
