Mayor Maddox and Auburn Mayor Continue Annual Iron Bowl Wager Tradition

Mayor Maddox and Auburn Mayor Continue Annual Iron Bowl Wager Tradition

Tuscaloosa, AL –  Mayor Walt Maddox and Auburn Mayor Ron Anders will continue the annual tradition of an Iron Bowl wager to benefit local charities this year.

When Auburn and The University of Alabama face off at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 26, if Alabama wins, Anders will make a $100 donation to the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative. If Auburn wins, Mayor Maddox will make a $100 donation to the Boys & Girls Clubs of East Alabama.

This yearly wager dates back to 2005 between Mayor Maddox and former Auburn Mayor Bill Ham. Since 2005, Auburn has won the Iron Bowl seven times, and Alabama has won ten times.

“The Iron Bowl wager with Mayor Anders is a great tradition, because it makes the outcome of the game a win-win for Tuscaloosa and Auburn,” Mayor Maddox said. “The Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Lee County are important community causes, and regardless of the outcome, we’re glad to help bring them both some recognition. Best of luck to Mayor Anders, and Roll Tide!”
