Construction Begins on McWright’s Ferry Road Extension Project

Construction Begins on McWright’s Ferry Road Extension Project

Last month, construction officially began on the long-awaited McWright’s Ferry Road Extension project. This project, funded through the Tuscaloosa County Road Improvement Commission (TCRIC), will significantly reduce commute times for those traveling regularly in or out of the area, and create additional access for first responders in the case of an emergency.

The extension will connect Rice Mine Road to New Watermelon Road by bridging North River and connecting to McWright’s Ferry Road. The project also includes a pedestrian bridge over North River and a shared-use path which will ultimately connect to the Northern Riverwalk.

TCRIC and the City of Tuscaloosa will hold an official groundbreaking ceremony for the project sometime in June.  Please stay tuned for more details.

The McWright’s Ferry Road Extension is expected to be completed in late 2025 or early 2026.
