Tuscaloosa County Road Improvement Commission and City of Tuscaloosa Celebrate McWright's Ferry Road Extension Project with Groundbreaking

The Tuscaloosa County Road Improvement Commission (TCRIC) and the City of Tuscaloosa celebrated the McWright's Ferry Road construction project with a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, July 21.

Construction officially began on the long-awaited McWright’s Ferry Road Extension project in March of this year. This TCRIC-funded project will significantly reduce commute times for those traveling regularly in or out of the area, and create additional access for first responders in the case of an emergency.

The extension will connect Rice Mine Road to New Watermelon Road by bridging North River and connecting to McWright’s Ferry Road. The project also includes a pedestrian bridge over North River and a shared-use path which will ultimately connect to the Northern Riverwalk.

The McWright’s Ferry Road Extension is expected to be completed in late 2025 or early 2026.
