City of Tuscaloosa Cuts Ribbon on Sokol Park North

City of Tuscaloosa Cuts Ribbon on Sokol Park North

The City of Tuscaloosa held a ribbon cutting ceremony for Sokol Park North on Tuesday, October 17 at 9 a.m.

Sokol Park North hosts a variety of athletic, recreational and leisure activities, attracting a large percentage of the sports tourism market. Phase 2 improvements included repaving existing parking lots located near both the community gardens and the Field of Dreams, a new traffic circle added to improve traffic flow and storm water drainage improvements to help fields respond better during heavy rain events.

Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox, Councilor Norman Crow and Tuscaloosa Parks and Recreation Authority CEO Brian Davis spoke during the ceremony.

“I think it’s important for the future that we’ve updated this area, and as we continue to do that with Elevate projects, you’re going to see more things across not only the district I represent, but all of the City of Tuscaloosa,” said Councilman Norman Crow.

Phase 2 of the construction of the park, funded by Elevate Tuscaloosa, began earlier this year.

“I’m thankful for the leadership of our City Council, the leadership of PARA and the leadership of everyone involved. Not only have we made this great park better, we’ve made it safer,” said Mayor Walt Maddox.
