June 11, 2025
The City of Tuscaloosa held a groundbreaking for the new Police Logistics Building on Wednesday, June 11, at 10 a.m.
Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox, Councilor Raevan Howard and Chief of Police Brent Blankley spoke during the ceremony.
"One of the great privileges of 20 years of working with the City of Tuscaloosa is the front row seat I've gotten to see what the men and women of the Tuscaloosa Police Department do for the people of Tuscaloosa everyday," said Mayor Walt Maddox. "This is the best police department in the nation for protecting and serving our citizens everyday. It's a real honor to break ground today on this new facility that's going to expand our capacity not only within the Tuscaloosa Police Department but for Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue as well."
The $1.1 million project will include 7600 square feet of enclosed space and six bays for emergency response purposes.
"Today is a great day for the City of Tuscaloosa and for the Tuscaloosa Police Department," said Councilor Raevan Howard. "I look forward to what this building will do in regards to enhancing this department's ability to protect all of the assets that we invest in as a community and to be able to take care of those assets so that we can continue to respond in a timely and safe manner."
The building will be located at 3311 Reese Phifer Avenue.
"Public safety has changed so much over the last 10-15 years and it is an honor everyday to lead the Tuscaloosa Police Department. The men and women of that department work so hard every single day," said Chief of Police Brent Blankley. "We went from being a department that was lacking in a lot of technology into one of the most technologically-advanced departments in the Southeast."
Construction is expected to be completed this winter.
