April 30, 2025
The City of Tuscaloosa held a groundbreaking for the new Bowers Park pickleball courts on Wednesday, April 30, at 10 a.m.
Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox, Councilor John Faile and PARA Community Outreach Director Jay Logan spoke during the ceremony.
"Bowers Park has a special meaning in my life. I spent a lot of time as a kid growing up in Tuscaloosa here," said Mayor Walt Maddox. "It's an honor and privilege to be here today to break ground on another Elevate project as we continue our investment across the city. We continue with the promise we made in 2019 to the people of Tuscaloosa."
The $3.76 million project will include nineteen new courts, a new outdoor restroom and lighting and security features.
"This is for my friend, Jerry Belk," said Councilor John Faile. "I'm excited to add to Tuscaloosa's quality of life. We want young people to come to this town and we want them to stay because it's such a safe city to live in. I appreciate everyone who's had a hand in this."
The courts will be located at 1600 James I Harrison Jr Pkwy.
"We have an opportunity to engage and be forward-thinking with recreation opportunities and this is the first step," said Jay Logan. "We are so excited to be partnered with the City."
Construction is expected to be completed winter 2025.
