Tuscaloosa and Austin Mayors Make Wager on Outcome of University of Alabama, University of Texas Football Game

Tuscaloosa and Austin Mayors Make Wager on Outcome of University of Alabama, University of Texas Football Game

City of Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox and City of Austin Mayor Kirk Watson have placed a friendly wager on the outcome of the University of Texas at The University of Alabama football game.

When the Texas Longhorns and The University of Alabama Crimson Tide face off at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, Sep. 9, if Alabama wins, Watson will send Mayor Maddox and the City team BBQ from Micklethwait Craft Meats. If Texas wins, Mayor Maddox will send a spread from the world-famous Dreamland BBQ to the Austin Mayor and his team.

“This friendly wager ups the ante on what already promised to be an exciting rematch between the Crimson Tide and the Longhorns,” Mayor Maddox said. “I have full confidence that Alabama will prevail once again in the electric atmosphere of Bryant-Denny Stadium, and look forward to a taste of Central Texas BBQ. Best of luck to Mayor Watson, and Roll Tide!”

“Texas is fired up and ready for a rematch,” Mayor Watson said. “I look forward to trying some of Tuscaloosa’s best BBQ after we beat Alabama. All that said, this will be a good game between two iconic college football programs in what’s likely an early chapter in a budding rivalry.”

The Crimson Tide beat the Longhorns 20-19 on September 10, 2022. Saturday’s rematch at Bryant-Denny kicks off at 6 p.m. CST.
