Commemorative Lighting Policies and Procedures
Purpose
To celebrate international, national and community wide events or causes.
Locations
City Hall, the Intermodal Facility Parking Deck and the fountain lights at Alberta Park.
Eligibility
The following lighting requests are eligible for consideration: holidays, historical events, local events, awareness initiatives, dignitary visits and nonprofit causes.
The following lighting requests are not eligible for consideration: commercial entities, personal occasions, religious observances, or requests unrelated to Tuscaloosa.
Making Requests
Lighting requests must be submitted through the below Commemorative Lighting Request Form. Requests do not automatically renew. The City reviews requests on a first-come, first-served basis and tries to accommodate as many requests as possible. Requests must be submitted by the official organization making the request at least 30 days and no more than 1 year in advance of the lighting date. Applicants will receive an electronic response stating if the request has been approved or declined.
Evaluation and Other Considerations
- Requests will be processed by the City’s Special Events team and approved by the Mayor’s office
- The City may override any confirmed requests due to emergency observances, but will attempt to best accommodate original request
- No requests for the same organization will be granted for more than a week
- If multiple requests are made for the same dates, preference will be given to events most relevant to the City
- The City of Tuscaloosa may refuse any request for any reason
Available Colors
Up to four colors can be displayed at City Hall and the Intermodal Facility Parking Deck. A single color can be displayed at the Fountain at the Gateway in Alberta. Specific colors (for example: grey, silver, maroon, brown and black) may not be possible.
