Mr. Kip Tyner is a native of Tuscaloosa. He graduated from Tuscaloosa High School and later received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Alabama. He is the owner of Kip Tyner Productions and served as the assistant press secretary for U.S. Senator John Sparkman. Mr. Tyner is also the host of the local television program, “Great Day Tuscaloosa,” produced daily and aired on Channel 21. This program is also streamed live on the “Great Day Tuscaloosa!” Facebook page. In 1986, he was honored at the Governor’s Mansion in Montgomery as Alabama’s Outstanding Young Man. First elected in 1997, this will be his seventh term. This is Mr. Tyner’s first term as president of the City Council. He served eight years as chairperson of the Projects Committee and 16 years as chairperson of the Public Safety Committee. Mr. Tyner served as vice chairperson of the Finance Committee for four years, Mr. Tyner is an avid Alabama basketball fan and heavily involved in Animal rescue, serving as Chairman of the Metro Animal Shelter Advisory Committee.
